The Center for State Policy & Leadership, Women’s Center and Students Allied for a Greener Earth present Earth Week 07, April 17-19th, 2007. On Tuesday April 17th Winona LaDuke will give a Keynote address on “Politics, Women and Environmental Justice” from 7:30 – 9:00 p.m. in the Studio Theatre, Public Affairs Center at the UIS campus. LaDuke is an internationally respected Native American and environmental activist. She is the director of the White Earth Land Recovery Project, and co-chair of the Indigenous Women’s Network, and program director of Honor the Earth whose mission is to support Native environmental issues and sustainable communities. She was Ralph Nader’s vicepresidential running mate on the Green Party ticket in 1996 and 2000.
And Thursday, April 19th there will be a panel discussion on “The Future of Renewable Energy in Illinois” from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. Brookens Auditorium at the UIS Campus. Panelists include: Rebecca Stanfield, State Director, Environment Illinois, John Caupert, Director, National Corn-to-Ethanol Research Center,
Edwardsville, Illinois, David Pimentel, Professor of Ecology and Agricultural Sciences,Cornell University, and Dr. Tih-Fen Ting, Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies, UIS, will server as moderator.
